LOGAN LOGIC
Sometimes you have to go to the mountain to see which way the wind is blowing.
That was my mind set eight months ago. I needed to make changes and regroup. So I got a new job to start off. I left the world of pro wrestling, which I had not done much in years, and became a dog handler. A great decision, I love dogs and found a place willing to pay me to be with them daily. Due to the work schedule, I decided to stop doing the podcast, Making the Towns.
I was only three episodes in, and was just hitting my stride. Actually I was convinced no-one was interested any way. Then a strange thing happened, I started watch lots of wrestling on YouTube. So much that I was regaining my love and fandom from my childhood. Eventually, Ashley, my wife, said to me that I needed to do the podcast again. That I had so many stories and that they needed to be shared. I casually asked on Facebook if anybody would be interested in hearing the podcast again. I was overwhelmed with the response. So I made the decision to restart the project again. This go around I wanted to have a new website as a central hub for the project, along with other things to celebrate my career.
While doing the prep work for the site, the Southern States Wrestling Anniversary Live Event was coming up within a few weeks. So I decided to go and see the boys. I was met, by the fans, with inquiries about the podcast. Questions like if I was gonna start up on episode five where I left off in my log book. This blew my mind that they wanted to find out and was looking forward to the return of the podcast.
It was at that Live Event I was asked by a good friend Denny Cooley to come to his event the following Saturday and sign some autographs. I figured that be a good way to start publicity on the new podcast, and have fun seeing everyone. From advertising that event, I was asked to appear for two days in Kentucky to wrestle the Rock n Roll Express in a Legends Match. I agreed with much joy, and just like that, I was back in the wrestling business.
That brings me to where I am today. I just got back home from my first long road trip, loop, in two years. The first night I teamed with The Russian and we faced The Rock n Roll Express in the main event in Sandy Hook, Kentucky. I was worried, because I had not been in a ring in so long. My cardio was nonexistent. Also ailing back and neck injuries were prevalent on my mind. It went well. I was cautious, but the match was a good one to get my feet wet.
Saturday night we were in Blaine, Kentucky. This time we were the opening match. A 6-man Tag team affair. I teamed with Fuji & John Sanders, whom are both deaf, against Rock n Roll Express and the local principal. The principal had only had two matches and admitted that he was not properly trained. There we were, that was the cards I had been dealt for that night. To top it off, there was no referee. Kerry Morton, Ricky Morton’s son, was called upon to be the guest ref. This was not an ideal situation. It was what I had to work with so I was determined to do the best I could with what I had.
The match started as I was in there with “Hoot”, Robert Gibson. We went through the spots we had that involved very little in the way of falling down. However, the time came that I had to take some bumps. Three in a row, then three more. That was more than I had done in years. Like riding a bike my body adjusted and I was competing as well as I could. As well as anyone on the card. The new guys on both sides worked hard, and did their best. In the end the crowd was chanting, “Rock n Roll, Rock n Roll!” The ending was “scrambled eggs”, but we managed to get to a position where I was pinned with a school boy trip by “Punky”, Ricky Morton. 1-2-3. I had made it, thirteen minutes and five bumps later I was back!
The road trip was long. Kentucky hills are unconventional to say the least. With money in my pocket I returned home to my family. I had missed them terribly. I had accomplished something I never thought I would be doing. At fifty-one, I was touring and accepting bookings.
You can view the match from Blaine, Ky below.
